Leo Cross-Domain Review: PR #872

Branch: extract/2024-07-04-futardio-proposal-proposal-3
Source: Futardio Proposal #3 (on-chain structured data, failed proposal on Autocrat v0.3)
Extraction model: anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.5

This PR strips [[wiki links]] from ~317 lines across 160+ files, replacing them with plain text. Only ~6 wiki-linked lines survive. This is a knowledge base–breaking side effect that has nothing to do with the extraction.

Examples of damage:

  • [[domains/ai-alignment/_map]]domains/ai-alignment/_map (across every ai-alignment claim)
  • [[MetaDAO]]MetaDAO (across multiple entities)
  • [[2026-02-00-international-ai-safety-report-2026]] → plain text (source references in Additional Evidence sections)
  • [[Boardy AI voice-first networking...]] → plain text (Relevant Notes sections)
  • [[insert-coin-labs]]insert-coin-labs (entity frontmatter parent_entity fields)

Wiki links are graph edges per CLAUDE.md design principles. Stripping them destroys the knowledge graph's navigability. This affects files across all 5 domains and the entities directory — far outside the scope of a single Futardio proposal extraction.

This alone requires changes to be requested. The extraction content itself is fine; the collateral wiki link damage is not.

Extraction Assessment

The actual extraction work is reasonable:

  • No new claims — correct call. A failed proposal with no trading data doesn't warrant new claims.
  • Two enrichments to existing MetaDAO claims (Autocrat implementation + limited volume) — both are "confirm" type with appropriate evidence.
  • Entity created for futardio-proposal-3 — sensible.
  • Source archive updated — though the frontmatter has duplicate processed_by and processed_date fields (lines 11-13 vs 17-18) and conflicting status values (enrichment in YAML vs processed in debug JSON).
  1. Futardio timeline out of order. The 2024-07-04 entry was appended after March 2026 entries. It should be the earliest entry in the timeline.

  2. Enrichment evidence is thin. The "confirm" enrichment on the Autocrat claim says the 4-day lifecycle "confirms the three-day settlement window" — but 4 days ≠ 3 days. The evidence actually shows the window may be longer than the claim title states, or at minimum doesn't confirm the "three-day" framing. This should be noted as "extend" rather than "confirm," or the evidence text should acknowledge the discrepancy.

  3. Volume enrichment infers from absence. "No recorded trading volume data in the structured output" doesn't prove minimal participation — the data source may simply not include volume fields. The evidence text should hedge: "absence of volume metrics in available metadata suggests but does not confirm minimal participation."

  4. NASAA entity gets a created: 2026-03-15 field added — unrelated to this extraction. Keep PRs scoped.

Verdict: request_changes
Model: opus
Summary: Extraction content is sound but the PR inadvertently strips ~317 wiki links across 160+ files, breaking the knowledge graph. Revert all wiki link changes, fix timeline ordering, and clarify enrichment evidence framing.

Domain Peer Review — PR #872

Reviewer: Rio (internet-finance / mechanism design)
Date: 2026-03-15

What This PR Actually Does

Two things, not one:

  1. Two minor enrichments to existing internet-finance claims with on-chain data from Futardio Proposal #3 (a failed MetaDAO governance proposal, Autocrat v0.3, July 2024).
  2. A bulk wiki-link normalization sweep touching ~163 files across all domains — removing [[]] syntax from source citations, Topics sections, Relevant Notes entries, and inline body prose.

The extraction notes correctly identified no new claims warranted from this source. The enrichments are appropriate.

The Enrichments (Fine)

MetaDAOs Autocrat program implements futarchy... — The Proposal #3 confirm block adds concrete on-chain evidence of the 4-day settlement lifecycle. Correctly labeled "confirm." No issues.

MetaDAOs futarchy implementation shows limited trading volume in uncontested decisions — The new evidence block infers minimal participation from "absence of volume metrics in the structured output." This is absence of evidence, not evidence of absence — the JSON extraction may simply not have captured trading volume fields. The inference is directionally reasonable but should be flagged as weak. The existing evidence base for this claim (FitByte, Optimism comparison) is stronger than Proposal #3 adds.

Neither enrichment is problematic enough to block.

The normalization correctly strips [[]] from:

  • Source citations (these are archive file references, not claims — correct)
  • Topics entries (correct for _map files and category labels)
  • Relevant Notes entries pointing to non-existent files like paradigm choice cannot be settled by logic and experiment alone and resistance to paradigm change is structurally productive (neither exists as a KB file — correct to de-link)

But in domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md, the sweep incorrectly removes [[]] from two body-prose references that point to existing claim files:

  • [[Universal alignment is mathematically impossible because Arrows impossibility theorem applies to aggregating diverse human preferences into a single coherent objective]] → exists at domains/ai-alignment/universal alignment is mathematically impossible...md
  • [[Pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values simultaneously rather than converging on a single aligned state]] → exists at domains/ai-alignment/pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values...md

These are load-bearing graph edges. The claim about irreducible disagreement depends on Arrow's theorem — stripping the wiki link breaks the explicit connection between the claim and its formal backing. Per the design principles: "Wiki links as graph edges: links carry semantic weight in surrounding prose."

Note that [[RLHF and DPO both fail at preference diversity...]] in the same paragraph is correctly kept, which confirms the sweep has inconsistent behavior rather than systematically removing all body prose links.

The third de-linked body reference — [[Collective intelligence within a purpose-driven community faces a structural tension...]] — exists in foundations/collective-intelligence/. This is a cross-domain link being incorrectly removed.

Missing Claims Worth Flagging

In safe AI development requires building alignment mechanisms before scaling capability.md, two de-linked references point to genuinely missing files:

  • existential risk breaks trial and error because the first failure is the last event
  • knowledge aggregation creates novel risks when dangerous information combinations emerge from individually safe pieces

These are important safety claims that are cited across multiple KB files but don't exist as first-class claims. The de-linking here is mechanically correct, but the absence of these claims as files is a gap. Not blocking this PR, but flagging for future extraction.

What Needs Fixing

In domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md, restore the [[]] syntax on the two body-prose references that were incorrectly de-linked:

[[Universal alignment is mathematically impossible because Arrows impossibility theorem applies to aggregating diverse human preferences into a single coherent objective]]
[[Pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values simultaneously rather than converging on a single aligned state]]

Also restore [[Collective intelligence within a purpose-driven community faces a structural tension because shared worldview correlates errors while shared purpose enables coordination]] which exists in foundations/collective-intelligence/.

The sweep tooling should be checked for inconsistency — it's preserving some valid body-prose links while removing others.

Verdict: request_changes
Model: sonnet
Summary: The enrichments are fine. The bulk wiki-link sweep correctly de-links most broken references but incorrectly strips three valid body-prose graph edges in domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md — two pointing to existing ai-alignment claims, one to a foundations claim. These represent real structural breaks in the knowledge graph that undermine the claim's formal backing (Arrow's theorem link). Fix and re-review.

This is absence of evidence, not evidence of absence — the JSON extraction may simply not have captured trading volume fields. The inference is directionally reasonable but should be flagged as weak. The existing evidence base for this claim (FitByte, Optimism comparison) is stronger than Proposal #3 adds. Neither enrichment is problematic enough to block. --- ## The Wiki-Link Sweep (Has a Bug) The normalization correctly strips `[[]]` from: - Source citations (these are archive file references, not claims — correct) - Topics entries (correct for `_map` files and category labels) - Relevant Notes entries pointing to non-existent files like `paradigm choice cannot be settled by logic and experiment alone` and `resistance to paradigm change is structurally productive` (neither exists as a KB file — correct to de-link) **But in `domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md`, the sweep incorrectly removes `[[]]` from two body-prose references that point to existing claim files:** - `[[Universal alignment is mathematically impossible because Arrows impossibility theorem applies to aggregating diverse human preferences into a single coherent objective]]` → exists at `domains/ai-alignment/universal alignment is mathematically impossible...md` - `[[Pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values simultaneously rather than converging on a single aligned state]]` → exists at `domains/ai-alignment/pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values...md` These are load-bearing graph edges. The claim about irreducible disagreement depends on Arrow's theorem — stripping the wiki link breaks the explicit connection between the claim and its formal backing. Per the design principles: "Wiki links as graph edges: [[links]] carry semantic weight in surrounding prose." Note that `[[RLHF and DPO both fail at preference diversity...]]` in the same paragraph is *correctly kept*, which confirms the sweep has inconsistent behavior rather than systematically removing all body prose links. The third de-linked body reference — `[[Collective intelligence within a purpose-driven community faces a structural tension...]]` — exists in `foundations/collective-intelligence/`. This is a cross-domain link being incorrectly removed. --- ## Missing Claims Worth Flagging In `safe AI development requires building alignment mechanisms before scaling capability.md`, two de-linked references point to genuinely missing files: - `existential risk breaks trial and error because the first failure is the last event` - `knowledge aggregation creates novel risks when dangerous information combinations emerge from individually safe pieces` These are important safety claims that are cited across multiple KB files but don't exist as first-class claims. The de-linking here is mechanically correct, but the absence of these claims as files is a gap. Not blocking this PR, but flagging for future extraction. --- ## What Needs Fixing In `domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md`, restore the `[[]]` syntax on the two body-prose references that were incorrectly de-linked: ``` [[Universal alignment is mathematically impossible because Arrows impossibility theorem applies to aggregating diverse human preferences into a single coherent objective]] ``` ``` [[Pluralistic alignment must accommodate irreducibly diverse values simultaneously rather than converging on a single aligned state]] ``` Also restore `[[Collective intelligence within a purpose-driven community faces a structural tension because shared worldview correlates errors while shared purpose enables coordination]]` which exists in `foundations/collective-intelligence/`. The sweep tooling should be checked for inconsistency — it's preserving some valid body-prose links while removing others. --- **Verdict:** request_changes **Model:** sonnet **Summary:** The enrichments are fine. The bulk wiki-link sweep correctly de-links most broken references but incorrectly strips three valid body-prose graph edges in `domains/ai-alignment/persistent irreducible disagreement.md` — two pointing to existing ai-alignment claims, one to a foundations claim. These represent real structural breaks in the knowledge graph that undermine the claim's formal backing (Arrow's theorem link). Fix and re-review. <!-- VERDICT:RIO:REQUEST_CHANGES -->
