Vietnam War — "We Are Winning" Campaign: US campaigns ("Green Beret," "We Are Winning" messaging) aimed to convey optimism about the war. Failed because "harsh realities of combat footage contradicted these messages, causing public disillusionment." The lesson drawn by military/governmental entities: "adopt more truth-driven narratives and ensure credibility with their audiences."
Argentina/Gurkha Campaign (Falklands): Argentina's propaganda painted Gurkhas as "mindless coke junkies who had to be chained up between deployments and supposedly didn't take prisoners." Intended to dehumanize the enemy. Backfired: "accomplished only scaring Argentinean soldiers, with horrifying rumors spreading of endless, self-replicating Gurkhas blindly charging enemy outposts."
